The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission promotes cultural activities and events for the residents of Monroe Township and surrounding towns. Born of a discussion by the League of Women Voters, who proposed ways of bringing the Monroe Township community together, this arts organization was created, with the mission to be open to all and to enhance the overall quality of life in the area. The Commission is dedicated to making cultural events and programs affordable and accessible.
Cultural activities include a wide array of activities, featuring musical concerts, visual arts, drama, and dance.
Some of our events include free summer music concerts in Thompson Park on Thursday evenings, and free daytime concerts at the Monroe Township Public Library. Chamber music, with world famous musicians, in collaboration with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, is performed at the library. And Boheme Opera NJ brings in original lectures accompanied by aria excerpts performed by professional opera singers.
A popular and well-attended annual celebration of the visual arts, is a Juried Art Show. Artists of central NJ are afforded the opportunity to exhibit their original artwork. The community is enriched, experiencing the art of local artists.
Hands-on art classes are available for adults, held at the Monroe Township Senior Center, and Children’s Theatre workshops and summer camps are offered.
Ticketed programs include classical and philharmonic orchestras (Princeton Symphony Orchestra, NJ Festival Orchestra, and Orchestra of St. Peter-by-the-Sea), Atlantic City Ballet and folkloric dance programs such as the Tamburitzens, well-known singers as Janis Ian, Judy Collins, and Richie Havens, and tribute bands of renowned classic rock bands as Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Get the Led O
